I have not had a period for 3 years so I am post-menopausal. Suddenly November 2nd I had a bleeding that lasted for 8 days. Started with bloody streaks and progressed to dark bleeding that was as heavy as a normal period. I had an ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound that showed 2 cysts on my left ovary and an abnormal thickening of the lining in the uterus. The bleeding has started again as of November 29th. I am waiting for an appointment with an OB/GYN. I am thinking I have something pretty serious going on. My doctor doesn't seem to think this is anything to worry about but after losing my Stepdad in July/09 and my Dad was given 3 months to live as of October ... both due to cancer ... I can't help but wonder. Does anyone have some insight into my issues?

I just turned 60 in May and have not had any periods for years- I don’t even remember my last one it has been that long. Today I got a headache and have cramps and bright red bleeding.
July 24, 2020 - 6:29pmHow long should I wait before I contact my doctor. I did recently have a well woman exam and there were no issues found.

Hello Anon
It sounds like you may have a hormonal imbalance. Your doctor can perform blood tests to see where your hormone levels stand and this will help to decide your treatment plan. Call your doctor and arrange an appointment.

I haven't had a period in at least 2 years, last month I started getting constipated, my left side of my back hurts, and last night my period started again! Should I be concern? I'm 52 years old.

Hello Anon!
This bleeding needs to be investigated. Bleeding after menopause (which is 12 consecutive months of no periods) is not normal. You may be experiencing hormonal fluctuations or something more serious that needs to be examined, particularly since you are in pain. You will need a full gynecological check up. It may or may not be serious but you should not delay.

Hello, Anon.
Why has your period been absent for 12 years? This would mean you were in your late 20's when it stopped. It's good you are seeing your doctor. Keep us updated.

Hello Anon
If you haven't had a period in four years, something was wrong in the first place. We can't say why you are suddenly bleeding now, aside from your period restarting but you need to be evaluated as to why you weren't getting your period beforehand.
Try Planned Parenthood near you - they offer good care at a reasonable price/sliding scale.
