I was a Gestational Surrogate not once but twice and both times I gave birth to twins via C-sections. I had my own two children naturally so having that first C-section was a shock! But that is an entirely different story.
I work in the infertility field. At the moment I consider myself an Infertility Industry Specialist who is an expert in Gestational Surrogacy. I once owned my own Surrogacy Agency for over 5 years before I moved to a very unfavorable and unfriendly state which regards surrogacy as baby selling. Now I spend my days helping Infertility Professionals by showing them how to reach the people who need them the most, those suffering with infertility (LaMothe Services http://lamotheservices.com/) or educating Intended Parents, Egg and Sperm Donors, Surrogates and Embryo Donors about Third Party Family Building through my blogs and websites (Infertility Answers, Inc.
http://infertilityanswers.typepad.com/surrogacy_101/) . I am pretty informed as to what the journalists, reporters, and news anchors are putting out there for John Q. Public regarding Surrogacy and Egg Donation and the like. It is so frustrating to read that "do to the economic crisis" there are more women then ever becoming egg donors or surrogate mothers. What REALLY needs to be said that although, perhaps, more applications for these types of programs may be filled out that doesn't mean that those same women are being accepted as being qualified donors or surrogates.
There are several health issues to consider and there is a huge time commitment that is never talked about. There are age requirements, lifestyle concerns, medications to take and not to mention you have to be "chosen" by the Intended Parents. This is not a quick financial fix for anyone nor is it a sure path to parenthood! Research is the key, always.

I've been pregnant with twins, and personally I can't imagine going through that (including the C-section) for someone else. And you did it twice!!! Talk about a MAJOR sacrifice. I also can't imagine the feeling of letting go of the babies ... I imagine I would always wonder what their lives are like, etc. Do you ever have feelings like that plaguing you, as you wonder if they're healthy, safe, happy, etc.? Do you still feel a bond with them?
Also, did you end up with any health problems afterwards that you hadn't considered beforehand?

Thank you....There are so many Intended Parents who need the help of a surrogate mother but not everyone can do it....there are risks so being healthy and educated in the surrogacy process is a must....

I applaud you for taking the risks in bearing the children for someone who could not. Thank you for sharing your perspective and experience.
