7 New Years Resolutions (none of them involve losing weight!)

1. Read that book you have been meaning to read

We all have a book we’ve been meaning to start (or finish) reading, so let this year be the year when you actually do it. B-D-S/PhotoSpin

2. Have some “me-time” each day

Even if it’s only that moment in the morning when you have your favorite drink before you start your day, make sure you take a little time to enjoy yourself. PhotoSpin/ PhotoSpin

3. Take a trip

It doesn’t have to be to Europe, a tropical island, or some other faraway place. Getting away from home for a few days will rejuvenate you and make you ready to tackle that big project at work. Scott Griessel/PhotoSpin

4. Set a date night

Life gets busy and we forget to show our appreciation for those around us. But this year, make it a point to go out, with your partner, your best friends and by yourself. MonkeyBusiness Images/PhotoSpin

5. Conquer a fear

Doing something that you fear will make you feel empowered. Jumping out of a plane with a parachute might not be your thing, but what about taking a solo trip or trying a foreign food? Little conquests count too. Knut Niehus/PhotoSpin

6. Say only positive things for a day

Take a look around and you will realize how much negativity surrounds us. Be the breath of fresh air people crave by saying only positive things (and mean the things you say) for a whole day. Smile at a stranger or hold the door for someone who has his or her hands full. PS Productions/PhotoSpin

7. Enroll in a class

Not necessarily advanced organic chemistry or biochemical engineering (unless that’s something you enjoy, then go right ahead) but pick a topic you would like to know more about. Community colleges are inexpensive places to go for day, and semester-long classes. Cooking classes, art lessons, and other classes are great ways to learn something new while having fun. You are never to old to learn something new. MonkeyBusiness Images/PhotoSpin
