8 Ways to Reduce Wrinkles Naturally

In Colette Bouchez's WebMD article, "23 Ways to Reduce Wrinkles," she quoted Robin Ashinoff, MD, a dermatologist at the Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. Dr. Ashinoff said, "Many women as well as men believe that aging skin is inevitable, but with the information and technologies we have today, you really can look as young as you feel.”

Here are eight ways to reduce wrinkles without having to visit the dermatologist.

1. Avoid the sun. The media reminds us almost every day that the sun is the primary cause of wrinkles. However, it’s still important to get your daily requirement of Vitamin D, so try to at least get at least 10 minutes of sun each day (with sunscreen on your face) if possible.

2. Wear sunscreen. If you are in the sun more than 10 minutes, the American Academy of Dermatology has recommended using a good sunscreen. Not only will it help to protect you from skin cancer, it will prevent new wrinkles on your face.

3. No smoking. The research may be controversial, but the proof is on the women’s faces who smoke regularly. Cigarette smoke ages your skin.

4. Get eight hours of sleep. Yale dermatologist Nicholas Perricone, MD. says, “Get enough rest and you'll produce more HGH (human growth hormone), which helps skin remain thick, more 'elastic', and less likely to wrinkle.”

5. Sleep on your back. “Back-sleeping also helps prevent wrinkles, because nothing is pushing against your face,” says Dee Anna Glaser, M.D., a professor of dermatology at Saint Louis University.

6. Eat more fish. Salmon and other coldwater fish are great sources of protein and fatty acids that help keep facial skin plump and youthful.

7. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Antioxidant compounds are often found to be the key to protecting our bodies against free radicals, therefore, it makes sense that eating more fruits and vegetables will help skin look younger and reduce wrinkles.

8. Use a simple moisturizer. You don’t need to spend a lot of money for anti-aging products, a simple moisturizer will do. Weather and tap water are only a few of the elements that can dry your skin, so moisturize often.
