Dr. Lewis:

If you are thinking of getting tested, we at the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS can offer you a free HIV test. You can come here where you can walk in and receive a free and confidential HIV test.

We do a rapid test. So we take a pin prick of your blood and we are able to test for HIV and syphilis and if you test positive, at that point we will make sure that we get you into care.

We have crisis counselors on standby that can work with you to help you move through the shock, and then we have support groups for those individuals who want to participate who are newly diagnosed. It’s a six-week long support group that helps you to explore who to tell and when, how to talk to your doctor, how to begin the process of moving to the next step.
