Lorraine explains if it is possible for a woman to infect a man with HIV/AIDS.

Lorraine:
They can. It is a lot more difficult for it to be passed from woman to male, but it is possible. Some of the common things that I tell women, especially because now we have such good treatment out there that women--or people, I should say--individuals who are HIV positive, think we don’t have to wear a condom anymore because, “Hey, we have undetectable viral loads now.” You still have HIV though in your system.

Common things that I tell women to really pay attention to their own bodies–they can have a slight yeast infection. They can have, be starting their menstrual cycle. They could be ovulating, which makes it even a much greater percentage of them passing it on to males.

So, they need to really pay attention to their body, you know, what the changes that’s going on. And being that women have their monthly, you know, we have to be a lot more intuitive with our own bodies than a man does, you know, because males don’t have the same changes every month where women do, and so them changes make it a lot more, make it, make that difference.
