I have heard of pet-therapy, music-therapy, equine-therapy (in addition to all of the more "traditional" or "well-known" therapy and counseling), but have you ever heard of horticultural-therapy? Does it work? How does it work?

I wondered if anyone has sought acupuncture as a means of helping alleviate moods swings and irritabilty. If so, can you recommend a good acupuncturist? Thank you!

Does anyone know of a trick to deal with jet lag? I have a terrible time with it when I travel and I think it actually takes me longer than the day per hour recovery time. I'll welcome any and all ideas.

In a study released today, older men are happier than older women. The reason? Women are less likely to achieve their life goals or they achieve them earlier -- like marriage, a home, a family. (Source: lifescience.com) Here are some of the milestones of the study:
* 41: Age at which men's financial satisfaction exceeds women's financial satisfaction.
* 48: Age at which men's overall happiness exceeds women's overall happiness.

An experimental treatment for depression is reportedly giving hope to patients who suffer from its most severe form. Deep brain stimulation (or DBS) in which the brain is stimulated with electrical impulses in an attempt to change mood. In this week's Biological Psychiatry, a Toronto-based scientist reported that he noticed a significant reduction in depression in 60 percent of patients who had not responded to more conventional treatments. The procedure has been used on 40,000 people worldwide including Parkinson's patients.

I'm wondering what constitutes verbal abuse?
I have a friend who has arguments with her long-term boyfriend that usually involve name-calling. Not low-down horrible names but more like accusations..."you don't trust me, you're too suspicious" or "you're being bitchy" or "stop being a control-freak". Nothing dreadful but the fights are frequent, usually about money and work commitments. He has called her the b word several times but she is kind of an instigator too, although I know no-one should be called any name. She has called him the male 'b' word too as well as the 'a' word.

This takes me back to college and my Psych 101 days. More than 50 years after the fact, many psychologists, philosophers and the like are still debating the tests of Stanley Milgram.
In a series of about 20 experiments, hundreds of decent, well-intentioned people agreed to deliver what appeared to be increasingly painful electric shocks to another person, as part of what they thought was a learning experiment. The “learner” was in fact an actor, usually seated out of sight in an adjacent room, pretending to be zapped.
