Bacterial Vaginosis: Symptoms, Causes, Risks and Treatments
Have you ever experienced unusual vaginal discharge that appears white or gray, is thin and smells fishy? Does it burn when you urinate, does it itch around your vagina and is it painful to have sex? You might be suffering from bacterial vaginosis.
This condition is a slight infection of the vagina that is easy to treat. However, you might have more serious conditions if you have bacterial vaginosis as a symptom, and this condition can also lead to complications during pregnancy and pelvic inflammatory disease. If you have bacterial vaginosis, you could be more at risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
This condition is caused by a disruption in the regular balance of bacteria in the vagina. Having multiple sexual partners, a new sexual partner or using an IUD and douching could be risk factors.
This condition can be treated with antibiotics or as a vaginal cream.
