Dr. Johnell:
Patients initially see me at a seminar most of the time or on video when they review our DVD that we send them in the mail.

So often times when I first see a patient that patient she’ll tell me, “Oh I recognize you. I know you from the DVD”, or she’ll tell me that she enjoyed our seminar.

We talk about various issues, medical issues and what not and then when the consultation is almost finished I will ask a patient, “I know you want to lose weight but why do you want to lose weight?”

And the patient’s almost overwhelming response universally is that they want to lose weight because they want to live better.

They want to do things with their spouse like go camping or riding bikes. They want to play with their children or their grandchildren and most of all they want to be there for their children and grandchildren when they grow up.

So it’s all about quality of life and when we talk about health and longevity we are really ultimately talking about quality of life and that’s the overwhelming issue that every patient wants when it comes down to weight loss and the benefits of weight loss.
