Here at Banner Gateway we have actually several stories of success and one that is very close to our heart is one of a nurse who works for our institution and after deciding having bariatric surgery she was having problems doing her job, doing her daily routine because of her weight and that was mainly the reason she came to us to have bariatric surgery.

She was submitted to a laparoscopic ROUX-en-Y gastric bypass, the bypass. And after six months she actually was excelling in her work. She was overall happier because of all the comorbidities that she got rid off like the sleep apnea and the diabetes and she thinks she is a much better nurse, although she was an excellent nurse before.

It makes me feel extremely, extremely happy, rewarding. It’s a feeling that you really did something for someone.

Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Dr. Podkameni started his general surgery training at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in 1996. He then returned to Brazil, where he became board certified in general and pediatric surgery. Dr. Podkameni finished his minimally invasive/laparoscopy training at the Cleveland Clinic in 2004. He serves as medical director of the Banner Gateway Bariatric Center. Dr. Podkameni specializes in Bariatric Surgery and General Surgery.
