Cheri advises women who are preparing to undergo bariatric surgery.

Cheri:
I am an advocate for patients in general, but especially I have a passion for gastric bypass potential patients. And actually in my history I have supported five other women through the process of surgery, in the hospital with them, helping them and supporting them.

Whenever I meet somebody new, especially in Dr. Dahiya’s office, and I know that they are a new client, I talk to them, express my feelings and that I listen to them to see if they need anything. Oftentimes I give them my phone number because it’s scary having a procedure; it’s scary thinking about having that procedure, but it’s all okay.

We have come to the end of a road, and it comes down to “Are we going to be healthy people? Are we going to be a healthy woman and be able to move forward with our life and to be function and to be active?” And, I think the answer is yes, and that we can stand up and say that for ourselves, and we can feel good about it.

If I could give another piece of advice to someone I would say, don’t give up; hang in there. We have a way to feel better and to improve our health and our quality of life. I am not going to say it’s easy. For me, it’s been a tough road to go down, but I am happy to have gone down that road and to have gone through the journey. And I am always excited if other people are willing to take that leap of faith and put their trust in Dr. Dahiya and his staff.

I think they have made a wonderful choice, and I am always available to talk to somebody if they’d like the support of me. I always try to make myself available, and it’s a great interaction. It’s like a sisterhood that we have created, and it’s important to have the support and to know that somebody else made it through.

And for me to say that, it’s huge because I went through a lot of surgeries, a lot of pain, a lot of sickness to get here to this point. I had to fight every step of the way. I chose to never give up. They are not going to make me give up. I am not a person that’s going to lose. I am a winner. I am sticking to my guns, and fortunately, I have someone that can come to my aid and someone that’s got my back. And that’s Dr. Dahiya and I am so thankful for him.
