Sophia explains how she felt embarrassed by her weight before she had gastric bypass surgery.

Sophia:
When I was at my peak weight of 226 pounds, I was embarrassed. I was going into almost a 4x and I was just like I didn’t see myself that big, and now I was like “Wow,” you know. But going into 4x, slowly I was going higher and higher and higher, but I was embarrassed. I wore baggy clothes. I always tried to be behind people, just kind of peeking out behind everybody, embarrassed that I didn’t fit into that seat or, you know, at a restaurant, the booths were so small you can’t fit, you know.

And also, you know, I wanted my children to feel, you know, good about me, not embarrassed to be like, “Oh, that’s my mom.” My husband–same thing wanted him to feel good about me and they do. I mean, they have always encouraged me. They never put me down but I felt that they were embarrassed of me. Shopping, I always bought very baggy clothes and tried to hide the bulge and everything, but it just I wasn’t hiding anything in making myself bigger.
