Bonnie:

Hi, I’m Bonnie. I am a patient of Dr. Tsao’s. I had a knee replacement done at one of the Banner hospitals and I’d like to share my story with you.

A few years ago I bought new sheets, put them on the bed, and in the middle of the night I rolled over and somehow caught my leg in the sheets and twisted my knee, and that started my knee problems and both knees actually because I had pain in one knee and I overused the other knee. So after five years I finally made up my mind to have a knee replacement.

During the five years that I had my knee problems I was unable to go for walks, long walks with our dogs, and we lived in the country at that time so that was one of my favorite things to do, and when we went on vacations I wasn’t able to do the hikes or any extensive walking, going up and downstairs was near impossible to do.

It really cut down on my ability to do any land exercises so I started doing water aerobics which helped. It was a lot easier on my knee.

When I tell people about the knee pain I was experiencing, it hurt to bend my knees so I was walking stiff legged on one knee and it threw everything off in my body because of that stiffness and unable to bend the knee and it just hurt to walk.

If it wasn’t for the knee replacement life would be very difficult. I would still be getting the cortisone injections and still struggling because even though they help for a while, they wear off and it’s more difficult to walk, more difficult to do any activities. It would be very, very difficult. So I am so happy I had the knee replacement done; looking forward to the second one and then I‘m going to be back.
