Dr. Aiello shares if health insurance will cover platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

Dr. Aiello:
I get a lot of questions from the patients regarding insurance coverage for the platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and fortunately it is covered.

And I found that to be a great benefit to the patients because if you think about this and this is my ultimate goal, is to treat these patients when they are, before their injuries have become so severe that they eventually need surgery.

And I think from an insurance standpoint I hope and I believe that the insurances do see this potential that they are saying, wait, if we have a therapy now that we can do on patients over time maybe one, two, three or four months and help their body to heal itself and prevent them from having traumatic surgeries down the road such as hip replacements and knee replacements, I think that will be a major boon to the whole healthcare system.

So fortunately it is covered by insurances and we have had good luck with the insurances taking care of it.
