Francine describes when she was able to walk naturally after having her left hip replaced.
Francine:
Here is the real kicker, you walk fairly quickly. In other words, I was walking around my house the first day I was home. I was walking out the driveway with a cane, you know, within a day or two, but I limped for the better part of a year after this surgery because they cut or move these muscles, especially the gluteus medius. I know more about the gluteus medius than anybody because it’s a muscle that either has to be cut or moved depending on what kind of procedure you have. And there are lots of different ones, but no matter what you do, it takes a long time to actually rebuild that muscle so that you have the same amount of strength in both legs. And until then, you’re going to limp.
