Annette:

The reason I wasn’t afraid of breast cancer is because, first of all, I dealt with a very, very difficult cancer for over 20 years, and I knew a lot of breast survivors. And then, doing the research, I found that the remarkable improvements and treatments were stunning. There’s such an improvement in terms of identifying the disease early and treating the disease, and the knowledge, the base that we have, hundreds of thousands of women who have gone through these treatments, so it’s a very predictable disease.

I also found that there were a lot of people practicing in this area who could help me. I got second and third and fourth opinions, and I felt like I was surrounded by a lot of knowledge, a lot of very credible information, and so many women who had survived the disease and were doing well. And I remember calling my husband and saying, "Good news. It’s only breast cancer."
