Keri recalls her mother's experience with breast cancer.
Keri:
Yes, my mother had breast cancer. I believe she was about 56 years old, and when she had a lumpectomy, it was just slightly under the margins of having to have a total mastectomy. She went through the radiation treatment and tamoxifen, and thank God that she has been cancer-free since then. She is 65 years old now.
Her cancer was, ironically, estrogen positive, and the doctors had told her, which they were at the time encouraging her because she was going through menopause to take estrogen replacement therapy. She chose not to, and when she found out that her tumor was estrogen positive, the doctors had said, "Thank God that you didn’t take the hormone replacement therapy because the tumor probably would have been a lot bigger," and it would have been a different path of treatment that she would have had to take.
