California resident Mattie is the Susan G. Komen Honorary Survivor for 2007 after overcoming breast cancer more than one year ago.
Mattie:
I am Mattie Mills from San Diego, California. This is a day of our 5k walk for the cure. I am the Susan G. Komen honorary survivor for 2007, and I am a one and a half year breast cancer survivor.
I was diagnosed right after Mother’s Day 2006. I am a mother of four. I have children ranging from the age of 18 to age two-and-a-half. I am here to encourage, inspire and motivate all women that have been through breast cancer and are surviving now, that you take one day at a time in your life. Enjoy the life that you have and be grateful for everything that you have.
It was a journey that was very difficult, like it is for every woman, but I had my eye on going through the other side, and you know what, the only thing that matters is today. That’s the only thing that matters, that’s how you live your day.
So that’s my biggest advice as being a survivor. As an honorary survivor I am just hoping to springboard from this to help with finding the cure, and there will be a cure, and it's lot of great things coming up. So, hang in there, be happy and be grateful. Have a great day.
