Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy: Less Disfigurement

Dr. Nabil Wasif is a general surgeon and an oncology surgeon, whose specialty is surgery for breast cancer. He is very much in favor of the performance of nipple-sparing mastectomies. This surgery differs from the traditional form of mastectomies. Unlike in the traditional form, the nipple and areola are not removed.

Traditional mastectomies have been performed for about fifty years. The nipple-sparing mastectomies are relatively new, having been performed for only the last five to ten years. Dr. Wasif has been performing this type of surgery for the past two years.

"Dr. Nabil Wasif, M.D., is a general surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, certified by the American Board of Surgery. He graduated from Aga Khan University Medical College in Pakistan and completed his residency in general surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell in New York. His interests include surgical oncology, general surgery, GI oncology, breast cancer, melanoma and sarcomas."
