Sarah, a breast cancer survivor, found a lump on her breast three months before her wedding and was diagnosed soon after.
Sarah:
I was 28 when I was diagnosed. I actually found a lump myself and then was getting married in three months. So, it was kind of a lot all at once, but I ended up having lumpectomy, radiation, and a year and a half in treatments, and then I was all done.
So, as of August 31, I am now survivor, and now I am sharing my story with as many people as I can because, you know, in your 20s you don’t expect to have cancer, and I had no family history is the key, and I had a healthy lifestyle and, you know, in your 20s you don’t think to do self breast exams on a regular basis.
If I had it, if had been more aware or even empowered to start checking early I would have, because who would've thought, you know. So, I felt caught off guard and I don’t want other women to feel like that. I want women to know that in their 20s they really have to start checking.
