Dr. Rohde explains why women often have carpal tunnel syndrome in their third trimester of pregnancy.

Dr. Rohde:
We are not really sure. The current explanation is that it causes, that women have swelling or increased swelling in the area of the carpal canal. There may be some hormonal relationship, but that has yet to be investigated.

Dr. Rohde received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completed her residency at the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center and performed her fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery-Weill Cornell Medical College.
