FRIDAY, July 11 (HealthDay News) -- People who are hospitalized for severe heart failure and have been taking beta blockers should be kept on those medications while in the hospital, a new study finds.

And if they weren't taking beta blockers already, most of them should be started on the medications when they leave, according to a report in the July 15 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

I have been very sucessful the last three years in losing 103 lbs by diet and excerise but since January 08 I was put on beta blockers and have not been able to lose weight. I am eating the same and excerising the same but nothing. Someone told me that beta blockers effect your metobilism. If that is the case is there anything I can do to raise my metoblism to complete the last 30 lbs I want to lose. My weight lose has nothing to do with being skinny. I am 53 years young and I just want to be healthy. I am 5'6 and currently weigh 193 and was wanting to get to 150 lbs. Any advice?
