TUESDAY, Sept. 23 (HealthDay News) -- Abortions in the United States fell 33 percent between 1974 and 2004, but sizeable differences among racial and economic groups continue to exist as to who gets an abortion, a new report says.

While the number of abortions among teens has also dropped dramatically, down 50 percent, abortion rates are still high among older women with children and poor women, according to the report from the Guttmacher Institute.

I'm pretty shocked by this, since birth control is so highly effective. I suppose I simply assume that if you don't want to get pregnant, you'll make sure to take birth control each and every time! Accidental pregnancies can happen - but most are highly preventable.

So, at last, the Prime Minister of India has denounced the fact that there are so many fewer girls than boys (927 girls for every 1,000 boys) in his country....

This public denouncement comes after an estimated 10 million girl fetuses were aborted over the past 20 years by families who wanted male heirs.

I'd say this is a major case of too little, too late. What do you think?
