Menopause with no hormone treatment?

Has anyone gone through menopause 5 years ago or longer and done it completely without any hormonal help at all?

I am in my second year of menopause after about five years of perimenopause. I have not used hormones of any kind and seem to have gotten through at least the physical effects (hot flashes, etc) without tearing my hair out.

What is a healthy hair dye? Is there such a thing?

Are some hair dyes better than others?

I used to use henna which is a natural hair dye and now use an-over-the counter, when I feel like jazzing up my look.

I notice that my hair can look a little brassy, even if I don't get my hair in chlorine or lie in the sun.

Are natural hair dyes (like ones found at the Body Shop) better than the ones in drug stores? Spending $$ at a salon would be nice but not really an option for me right now, even if I am 'worth it'! :)

MONDAY, Aug. 18 (HealthDay News) -- Whether it's frizzy or flyaway, nearly everyone puts up with an unruly head of hair from time to time. Now scientists have trained their microscopes on hair to find out why it misbehaves -- and how to tame it.

In a new study, said to be the first of its kind, German researchers say they've gotten extreme-close-up views of how hair fibers interact. Their insights could lead to products that banish bad hair days for good, they say.

Health Tip: Treating Head Lice

(HealthDay News) - Head lice are tiny insects that live in the hair. They can be transmitted from person to person, or by sharing items such as clothing or linens with an infested person.

The U.S. National Library of Medicine offers these suggestions to treat and remove head lice and their eggs:

* Thoroughly wash hair with a medicated shampoo or lotion that contains permethrin.
* Use a metal nit comb to pick eggs out of the hair. Metal combs are more effective than plastic ones. Rub olive oil on the hair or rub the comb in beeswax before combing to make eggs easier to remove.
