What does the term 'negative calories' mean?
I know it has something to do with eating foods that actually make you lose weight - even though these foods contain calories. The foods are healthy but this concept is counter intuitive to me. Some people swear by it, others say it holds no merit.
Any ideas? And does this concept really work?

I have heard a few people refer to gastric bypass as the easy way out (of diet and exercise). Maybe these people are the same ones who think a c-section is the 'easy way out' of child birth. I think I can safely sit here and say how untrue that is. Perhaps those people who have had weight loss surgery may want to do the same.

TUESDAY, Aug. 12 (HealthDay News) -- Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics who lose weight soon after their diagnosis gain better control of their blood pressure and blood sugar, a benefit that lasts even if they regain that weight.
"If you lose weight after diagnosis, you can achieve some long-term benefits in terms of blood pressure and glycemic control that extend even beyond the point at which you regain weight," said Gregory A. Nichols, co-author of new research published online Aug. 12 in the journal Diabetes Care.

For the past few years there has been plenty of talk about women dressing in sexy lingerie and high heels, using a stripper's pole. All in the name of fitness!
Women of all ages, sizes and fitness levels are heading to home gyms or women-only fitness clubs and learning how to dance exotically in order to lose weight and gain cardio fitness. They don't all dress the part, but many do, and claim this kind of exercise helps them out in the bedroom too - getting them in the mood and helping them look better on top of it.

Today marks two weeks since my second lap band surgery. I have just finished my second week of liquids and when I stepped on the scale this morning I weighed in at 205. This means I have lost 15 pounds over the last three weeks. I will be on liquids for one more week. I have continued walking two miles, five days a week. All of my soreness is gone now. I feel really good other than getting a bit tired of liquids and some occasional fatigue. I am now out of my size 18 and back into my size 16 clothes.

We've recently discussed weight loss programs and clinics. While some people have enjoyed a measure of success following a "clinic" plan, they have also regained the weight.
Joy Bauer would have you eat real food to lose 10 pounds in 5 weeks, before the holiday season begins. Here's how:
- Lose the dressing on your salad, using basalmic vinegar or lemon juice, instead
- Lose the whole fat milk for skim
- Lose one slice of bread on your sandwich for open-faced

I see constant commericals from companies like Medical Weight Loss, Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem that offer pre-packaged meals sent right to your home. You have to add fresh veg, fruit and dairy yourself. The cost is about $10 or $11 per day, not including the foods you add. And several weeks are free, if you sign up for a certain period of time.
These foods seem very salty and processed so I am not sure what to think about them. I guess a lot of water might balance that out!
Has anyone tried them? What was your experience?

Once thought of as a disease primarily affecting teenagers and young women, eating disorders are increasingly being seen in women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond.
As women are feeling increased pressure to maintain a youthful façade, and seeing women like Madonna and Sharon Stone turn or pass 50 without a wrinkle, they feel the same pressures as women half their age.
Add to this the stress of divorce, menopause, middle-aged weight gain and empty nest syndrome; eating disorders can become a way for women to feel like they are in control.

Crumbs Count: If you don't believe me, just ask your thighs.
Who's Foolin' Who? by Janice Taylor, Life & Wellness Coach, author, 50 pounds big-time-loser.
Crumbs Count
A bunch of years ago I stumbled upon Nancy, the star of Ernie Bushmiller's comic strip of the same name, "Nancy." As I remember it, Nancy was pictured with a box of cookies in one hand and a hammer in the other. Her aunt was yelling from another room. "Don't spoil your appetite. Dinner will be ready soon." To which Nancy replied, "I'm only eating the crumbs."
