Hi Tina,

Expectations regarding acupuncture and Chinese medicine vary depending upon the needs of each couple. All my patients have been evaluated by either their OBGYN or a reproductive endocrinologist to rule out an obvious physiological reason for their inability to conceive. Depedning upon their philosphy and wishes we put together a plan that can include weekly acupuncture, a detailed analysis of nutrtion and the importance of high quality nutrient dense foods in preparation for pregnancy, and an open discussion about stress and the relationship between anxiety/stress and infertility as well as time tested techniques to help alleviate the anxiety surrounding infertility to give couples tools to make the process easier and less stressful.
Some patients require the assistance of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in which case our services are a complement and act to enhance that process. In other cases all aspects of holistic medicine are used including botanicals to help facilitate a regular cycle or increase sperm perameters to help them achieve a successful pregnancy.
Hair thin acupuncture needles are placed at specific acupuncture points in relation to the "phase" of a woman's cycle to encourage natural directions of either buidling blood or tonifying energies in the body necesarry for success. Treatments are painless and more often than not most of my patients end up taking a nap and wake up refreshed. More info is available at www.acuhealthaz.com
