I read in one article that having older kids help in the preparations, can help alleviate some anxiety and help them feel more "in control". Having the kids help pack their lunch, from choosing which juice or veggie that they want is a small gesture that can have a good reward.
A few SAHM moms I know are starting their toddlers in a pre-school class, and since it is also the moms who were upset/anxious, they scheduled a "fun appointment" for themselves, after they dropped their kiddo off at school.
I love the idea of having a playdate with other kids in the same class, as many of them are probably in the same neighborhood (If you live in the suburbs). This could also help for AFTER school, if kids have same after-school activities, or want to play with their neighbor-friends. Getting to know the parents in your neighborhood is helpful in so many ways, including safety-reasons and the convenience-factor.
And, I'm not sure if this is too "June Cleaver" or "Martha Stewart", but be sure to leave a nice note with encouraging words for your little one in their packed lunch! :-)
