Stores around town have already stocked their shelves with Halloween decorations and bags of sweet treats. My downfall is candy corn, especially the type with chocolate. Made with real cocoa, of course.
A 10-oz bag packs 140 calories in a serving of 22 pieces. The candy corn is so popular that, if placed end to end, there would be enough to go from California to China and half way back (is that going East or West from San Francisco?) Add to this that October 30th is National Candy Corn Day.
While there are suggestions for enjoying candy corn without gaining weight, the problem is that the candy is being passed along to kids who will be consuming far too much sugar. Speaking of which, I'll bet I consume at least 3 servings before my teeth start complaining!
Do you have a weakness for candy corn at Halloween?
If you celebrate Halloween, do you remember what sweet treat you always wanted to find in your Tick or Treat bag?

Like Tina's experience, there was a woman who lived at the top of the hill from my Grandmother's house in San Francisco. Every Halloween, she would give us kids a small jar of pennies. Now, I don't know if she gave every kid a jar, that would have been a fortune! Maybe she knew which ones lived on her street, who knows. But, although I can't remember her name, I certainly remember the very unusual treat.
A pirate - arrrggghhh! We decorated our front porch a la Pirates of the Caribbean long before Johnny Depp's movie. I had a line of torches along the walkway to our door, a real treasure chest made of an antique camelback trunk, and lots of silky looking drapes surrounding an antique Spanish chair. It was fun and the neighborhood kids totally "got" it. Too bad they didn't "get" Christopher Columbus meets the West Indians another year. They also got the Headless Horseman - that's another story - and having to reach into Dracula's cardboard castle to fish treats out of a bowl of gummy worms (ewww!).
Halloween is such a fun event! The dentists around town look forward to it, as well, haha!

Was more of a lemon drop person myself. And the best thing was most of the kids in my neighborhood didn't like the sourness of lemon drops, so they would give them to me.
But in the long run, that wasn't a good thing as it looks like lemon drops pack about 125 calories per serving.
I also always liked getting money. Had one woman who would always give out small change, like pennies, nickels and dimes to Trick or Treaters.
