Hi All, I have done some research into this IUD for my website and I am stunned at the lack of information that is available about the effect of using synthetic hormones directly in the uterus and the side effects of this new IUD. Way back in the early 1970's the U.S. Senate had hearing on the safety of the first IUD put into the marketplace. It was known as the dalconshield. I had one and got pregnancy with it. Many young women at the time ended up with terrible infections which lead to life altering hysterectomies. The U.S Senate made the determination at this time that the dalconshield was no less dangerous than an other birth control methods in the marketplace at that time. Birth control pills were the primary source of birth control at this time. I don't know if you are aware of it but the only study that was done on birth control pills took place in the late fifties using birth control pills was on a handful of women from another country for three months. Yes ladies there was barely any research done on birth control pills. We wonder why so many women are ending up with reproductive cancers. We were the clinical trail. Back to my point. The Senate did not force the manufacturer of this IUD to remove it from the marketplace but instead left it up to the company on whether to remove it or not. I see Mirena as just another barely tested type of birth control and remedy to heavy bleeding that should not be used by young woman.

It is well know at this particular time in medicine that heavy bleeding is caused by an imbalance in progesterone and estrogen that can lead to the development of fibroids. I would recommend that any women young or old that is experiencing heavy bleeding get their hormone levels taken to determine if, in fact, your hormones out of balance.

Our reproductive is always at risk when huge profits are to be made.

Condemns are a safe and effect form of birth control that also prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Educate yourself before choosing anything that will effect your hormone levels.

This link has good information on the side effects of this IUD.
