My story is one of personal triumph: Runner's World athelete and health nut gets cancer anyway. When I was going through treatment, the prevailing wisdom was that the best way to combat cancer-related fatigue was with rest. Now, 10 years later, there are mountains of research that indicate just the opposite is true: Exercise is the most effective treatment for cancer-related fatigue. Problem is, most people don't like exercise, and even if we do, when you are so tired you can barely leave your bed, how do you find the will to become active? The answer: you join with others. How do you find others? That's where I come in.
I am part of a group that provides free exercise classes for cancer survivors all over the Valley. We are holding a free, half-day event at Scottsdale Healthcare and Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center on November 8th that asks you, "What if You Loved Exercise?" We offer you a free breakfast, and a panel of cancer survivors who describe how exercise helped them, even when they never thought it would. We also will present motivational speaker Steve Chandler to help people find the enthusiasm to start their own exercise program, and finally, we will have 12 different kinds of exercise that participants can try to see what they most enjoy doing. We will offer 2 "Try Me" sessions for you to see what you think. The event ends at noon.
Everything is free but space is limited. To reserve your place, call Maddy at Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at 480.323.1250. If you have questions, email me at [email protected] .

I have a family history of cancer, and am intrigued by your energy level! How did you find the motivation to exercise, and keep exercising?
Can you share some of your secrets (either before or after Nov 8th), for those women who are not able to attend your event?
If women do not live in Scottsdale, do you have any helpful suggestions for them on how to meet others who share the same philosophy of exercise?
thanks!

Nancy, you inspire me! I have not had cancer, but just reading your post and seeing what you are doing is motivating in itself. I wish I lived in Scottsdale!
I love that you are a 10-year cancer survivor. That's the coolest thing of all. Here's wishing you an even more awesome next 10. Sounds like you're already on your way!
