I have been on bith control for 10 yrs now and have always just not felt right. I have had periods of time in my life where I feel "normal" but it doesn't last. I have resently read some information on hormonal imbalance and it describes a lot of how I'm feeling. I just have no energy, I can't sleep at night, having night sweats, and just a over all feeling of "blah". I just feel numb to everything most of the time. I have no sex drive and I'm only 25. I would like to believe this isn't the way I'm supposed to feel on a day to day basis. I just wonder if its possible that birthcontrol pills have caused a hormnal imbalance or if I could be rare and be this young with a hormnal imbalance. I don't have help insurance so I have to chose wisely what doc. I see. I can't afford to see 3 doc to find out whats wrong with me. Thank you for your time. I appreciate any advice or answer you can provide.

I am a 25 yr old woman whose lab results come back with severely low almost non existant hormone levels(testosterone, pregnenolone, dhea, estradiol,progesterone.). I have hypothyroidism and have been using nuva ring for 5 yrs.My doctor is concerned and is sending me to an endocrinologist for a hormone evaluation. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of condition?

When i was researching what kind of birth control would be best, i found out that theyre all good, but certain types affect very differently from person to person. A lot fo the negative side effects from using birth control are what youre feeling; low sex drive, feeling sore, headaches, and the ill feelings keeping you from sleeping at night.

When my friend had the pills i take, (trycyclen Lo) she would be depressed and have spotting and sex drive was destroyed. As soon as she switched to Yasmin, she was completely fine and was no where near crazy and her sex drive is up and running thats for sure :P
so, its different from person to person. Try something new.

As soon as your month is done, try a different brand of birth control. You seem like youre getting very ill effects now, so i don't think it could get any worse, and all birth control pills are very reliable, so dont worry about feeling like you have inferior protection. Just find one that doesnt affect you so negatively

Let me know if this helped you

Hi, Anon, so glad you found Empowher. Can I ask you a couple of questions?

Can you tell us what kind of birth control pills you are taking? (Some listed side effects may shed light on some of this).

You say you've always felt this way and that you've been on birth control for 10 years; so you never felt "right" or like yourself for long stretches of time while on birth control? Have you been on the same kind or different kinds over the years?

The answer is yes, it's quite possible to have a hormonal imbalance at 25. But there might also be other things that explain it as well.

Have you ever been diagnosed with depression or another disorder? Do you take meds for anything else? Did you used to have a sex drive that has now gone away?

See if you can give us more details and let's see what we can find for you.
