Kristin, thanks for the "wondrous" part of your posting, I appreciate it. Here is what I'd suggest in regards to magnesium, since this mineral relaxes the muscles, you are better off getting full advantage of it by taking it at night. Are you taking calcium as well? If so, calcium is better during the day. I take magnesium(the powder version) like a tea right before bedtime. It helps me get a restorative sleep by relaxing my muscles.

In regards to your GERD, as you know I am not a friend of pharmaceutical products. I have a simple recipe known to cure GERD/Acid Reflux. I used to have GERD but since I made changes to my diet and stick to natural approaches, I no longer suffer of this annoying conditions.

2 Teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in water, 3x a day. Take a stronger concoction (i.e., more vinegar, less water) directly after a heavy meal if you are treating acid reflux or GERD.
