The CDC has a website that describes the different types of diseases passed from pet to human, which includes rare and common diseases, both minor and serious. Some pets seem to be more risky in spreading diseases, while others (dogs and cats) are much less risky.

For instance, "Toxoplasmosis is a disease that can come from cats, but people are more likely to get it from eating raw meat or from gardening."

Regarding dogs, the CDC says, "puppies may pass the bacterium Campylobacter in their feces (stool). This germ can cause diarrhea in people. Puppies and some adult dogs often carry a variety of parasites that can cause rashes or illness in people."

The CDC recommends for dog and pet owners to practice basic hygiene and wash your hands regularly to help prevent the spread of diseases.

Sounds like there are many more health benefits to having cats and dogs than there are disease risks, so enjoy your furry friends! You can read an article on EmpowHer: health benefits of pets.
