Rebecca, thank you for a wonderful reminder about the symptoms of depression and the fact that it can happen to any of us at any time.

One of the problems with depression is that it is insidious -- we often are deep in it before we start to realize something out of the ordinary may be wrong. But by that time, we perhaps are feeling the apathy and malaise that depression brings, and we find it difficult at best or indulgent at worst to seek help for "feeling bad." After all, shouldn't we be able to shake things off and get back to business?

If you are feeling the things Rebecca wrote about, don't second-guess yourself. Depression is a very real illness that rarely lifts quickly on its own. Getting therapy and/or medication, in addition to becoming aware of nutrition and exercise, can help immeasurably. Especially during a time when we have so many outside stresses coming from things like jobs, housing problems and financial concerns.
