Hi carlene,

I am so sorry that you are going through all of these diagnoses.

According to MedlinePlus Drug & Supplement page, "Zoledronic acid (Zometa) is not cancer chemotherapy, and it will not slow or stop the spread of cancer. However, it can be used to treat bone disease in patients who have cancer. Zoledronic acid is in a class of medications called bisphosphonates. It works by slowing bone breakdown, increasing bone density (thickness), and decreasing the amount of calcium released from the bones into the blood."

You can read the potential and likely side effects by clicking on the orange link above. Did your doctor review these with you already?

From my understanding, taking Zometa is not to cure/stop/slow the bone cancer that you currently have, but it can can treat bone damage from other cancers that have spread to the bone and caused damage to the bones. Is this your understanding, too?

What are your and your health care provider's goals with the Zometa?
What are your other options/alternatives?

I can do some research, to find the effectiveness rates for using Zometa, but first need to know what the treatment goals are by using this medication.

Hope to hear back from you soon!
