My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1981, she was 45 years old. Back then I don't think they had the different versions. We were just told breast cancer period. She had a radical mastectomy and her lymph nodes under her arm removed. No cancer in the lymph nodes. She wore a prosthesis. No reconstruction surgery. A year later, during another breast exam she told her doctor she wanted the other breast removed. She had the second mastectomy and the breast tissue was sent out for biopsy. That breast was full of cancer cells that had not yet made a lump. She has never had another recurrence. My Grandmother, (my Mom's Mom) had a mastectomy at the age of 79, lymph nodes removed and were clear. My Gram would wear my Mom's old prosthesis when my Mom would get a new set. Neither of them had to have chemo or radiation. My Gram died in 2015 at the age of 100. I know that my chances and my daughter's chances of getting breast cancer have risen greatly. Unfortunately, in my case, I have already had Malignant Melanoma and had part of my leg removed and just three years ago, I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and had part of my kidney removed. So, one thing I do know - if/when I get breast cancer - I'm having them both removed and God willing, I will have similar results to my Mom and Gram. I will proudly wear my prosthesis, maybe I'll even go a little bigger than I was. LOL

Some of these stories leave one hopeful. I was diagnosed with stageIV breast cancer in 2011 which metastasized to the bone supposedly. I did 4.5 years of chemotherapy, no radiation, no mastectomis or lumpectomies. In fact it's 5 years later and I still have both my breast. WhIle diagnosed in June 2011, I went into remission in early 2012. So all hope isn't lost even with the most severe stages of breast cancer. Faith in a higher power is what gave me my edge. God showed me favor, grace and mercy. His favor is his divine purpose to serve others, and to help us learn that "faith is the substance of things hopeful the evidence of thing we can't see." May Jehovah Rapha continue to heal your body. Amen

Just received my positive diagnosis last Thursday....it was my first mammogram...I am 41. Scheduled for MRI and surgical consultation. I am absolutely terrified. I know that it is IDC, but not what stage it is at or whether any lymph nodes have been compromised. Any advice would be lovely...lol...my first thought is to just get them both removed as to reduce re-occurrence risk as much as possible.

I had invasive ductal carcinoma. I had very dense breasts so it was not seen on my mammogram. Four months later while raising my arms I saw a flat spot. Only when raising arms. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer and HER2 positive. 6 nodes were positive, 2 grossly positive (ruptured and into tissue). I had 28 lymphnodes removed and a lumpectomy. 12wks of intense chemo, 6 wks of radiation and 52 wks of IV therapty of herceptin. After 14 months, I made it! I focused on boosting immune system and prevention after that. It has been 6 years this month. I will be participating in a breast cancer presentation today. Prevention is important, but I believe some of your future is just destiny.

Thank you for your inspiration, I have stage 3, phase 3 of this kind of cancer, today I receive my 5th out of 6 chemotherapy treatments, Surgery is next. My tumor was HUGE. She was unable to detect my huge tumor any longer by hand which surprised me, I have 2 daughters and am a single Mom so I cried so much. I am afraid of radiation, would you suggest radiation? I am combining changing diet (as sugar, pesticides, meat, dairy, etc.) are all very toxic and as well I have been taking supplements and vitamins, multivitamins and also higher doses of most of the other vitamins except for calcium. Anyone with any kind of cancer please do your research on homeopathic methods, I am not recommending that you use it only as that is a decision that is highly personal and depends much on the individual (I have read many who have done it only the homeopathic route and survived and I also have heard some who have went that route and did not, But in other countries they are making a lot of progress and there are products you can buy to help you heal. I recommend the book Radical Remission, a woman who spent 10 years studying people sent home to die either because they failed Western medicine or were considered too far gone to treat---the thousands of people who survived and most are CURED when given 2 days to 1 yr to live--and some have been alive since the 1970's after given the death sentence, she studied these survivors all over the world, what they did, what they had in common, how you can boost your chances of survival dramatically regardless of what stage and regardless of which kind of cancer you have. I only eat organic, if I eat meat or dairy then it is little only and from free range organically fed animals--everyone is different but 97 percent of breast cancer patients have much pesticides in their breast tissue so reduce the toxic overload for sure! Good luck all going thru this as I am.

Thank you for posting your answer. Yours is the first positive one that I have seen, so far. At this point I don't really know what stage that I am at, but I've already had surgery and some tissue was removed. They also removed 3 lymph nodes, but found no cancer in any of them. I am due to have a MRI in 1 week and we will go from there. I have been told that at least 5 weeks of radiation is in the cards and some type of chemo, probably hormonal therapy, along with the radiation. THANK YOU so much for your positive response. You have given me hope!

Hey, still going strong! I am now going on 9 yrs cancer free. Last year I had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy to decrease my chances of recurrence. I felt I was beating the odds and wanted to take the last step. Im happy with my decision. No more mammograms for me.
