Anon, is it possible that you are getting too much sun exposure? Lips have pigmentation in them that can turn darker if they are exposed to too much sun, just like the rest of our skin.

Sometimes allergies can cause this, also. Do you know if you suffer from any allergies to skin creams? Did you used to wear lipstick before you noticed your lips turning dark?

Some women with lips that got darker use a combination of lemon juice (to lighten) and glycerin (to moisturize) them over time. If you only use a tiny bit of lemon juice you can leave this mixture on overnight and wash it off in the morning.

During the daytime, Vaseline will keep your lips moist, and will not darken them.

Here's one page with tips about this:

In terms of lip balms or lipsticks, what you want to do is stay with brands that are well-known and well-made and have the word "hypoallergenic" on the box or label. If you live near a department store, go to the cosmetics counters and ask the salespeople at the counter if all of their lipsticks are hypoallergenic. I usually would not recommend specific brand names, but I know through a friend that Clinique is very good for sensitive skin.
