I'm currently going through chemo for cancer, and before I started I cut off my long hair so that I could donate it before any of the drugs affected it.

I donated to Locks of love several years ago, never expecting that I would one day need a wig. I can tell you from my current personal experience they are very expensive - the human hair ones I looked at ranged from $1600- 2500 dollars. I have my hair cut and it is stored following the directions on their website. This time I might donate to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program because I just found out about them. However, even though they might give them to the American Cancer society free of charge, the American Cancer Society does not give all their wigs away - many are wigs that the cancer patient have to pay for themselves, just like locks of love - and often they are not covered by insurance. My oncologist gave me a catalog in case I wanted to purchase one from ACS and none of them are free, but they are much less costly than the local places that sell wigs near me.
