Why do you take 5-HTP? I take it to help me get back on a good sleeping pattern since I have always had problems. This has been one of the first things that has been successful. I think it definitely helped increase the serotonin, which influenced production of melatonin. I tried taking 50mg, but 100mg works best for me. 300mg seems like a lot. When I tried 200mg, it made me feel "too tired" and almost seemed as it gave me an opposite effect. I think the first thing to do is to look up the information at your local health food store and compare doses for the reason why you are taking it. It does vary for the specific needs. Then, I would consult your doctor. Let me know :).
