I also am quite used to the fact that magazines airbrush and photoshop everything. I wouldn't expect to look at a fashion magazine and see extra pounds or (heavens!) a pimple on a model.
But I was so surprised to see the cover photo of Kelly Clarkson, for two reasons: One, it's Kelly Clarkson, who, like you said, has always been honest about her body (Go, girl!) and Two, it's Self, which I always thought was a more truthful magazine about such things.
And who's to say that this fake photo is Kelly at her best? Who gets to decide that? The person herself, or some graphics editor working on the computer? It seems arbitrary and deceptive, to say the least.
