Have you started (or ended) a medicine? Have you been under a lot of stress (say, starting school or losing a job?) Are there things in your life that have changed, such as the way you're eating or how much you are exercising?
A lot of things can affect our cycles. Stress is one of the biggest things that affects our hormones. Stress causes our body to release hormones in a certain way, and sometimes that interferes with the hormones that keep us on cycle.
Did you have unprotected sex since your last period? And you took a home pregnancy test? Occasionally a HPT can be negative when you are indeed pregnant, when you test a little too early or just don't have enough of the pregnancy hormone (HCG) in your system yet. If this might be the case, I would test again to be sure.
If that test is negative, I would wait perhaps another week or ten days to see if your period comes late. And don't fret too much. It's not uncommon to even miss a period when things are chaotic.

Is that the case with you?
