Janalis,

Your last menstrual period was 10/08...and today is 11/05. When are you expecting your next menstrual period? Meaning: how long are your cycles typically, and are they irregular or regular?

The only time a pregnancy test will be accurate is once you have missed your next period. The reason: it takes about 10-14 days from time of ovulation to time of implantation (of a fertlized egg), so you may not even be pregnant yet!

Any symptoms you are experiencing now could be anything...it could be an upcoming period, it could be pregnancy..or any number of things. Most pregnancy symptoms are not noticeable for most women until after they have missed a period. (I know--you would think something as miraculous as a fertilized egg implanting into your uterus and creating a viable pregnancy would cause more noticeable signs in your body...but it just doesn't work that way!).

Wait until you have missed your period; I assume it is expected around 11/8, before taking a pregnancy test. If it comes back negative, wait another week for either your period to start or to take another test. I know it's easier said-than-done to tell you to wait...but it is a 10-14 day-long process to become pregnant, and for your body to begin releasing the "pregnancy hormones" after implantation that at that moment begins the cycle of "pregnancy symptoms" (nausea, bloating, headaches, acne, back pain, sore breasts, etc).

Let us know if you have any additional questions; we've written about this topic many times and are happy to share more information about conception, etc.

How long have you been trying to conceive?
