apm97,

I am sorry that you are feeling ridiculed and judged by those around you, because of your weight.

There are many effective and healthy ways to lose weight, but before you begin the weight-loss journey, you may want/need to get into the right frame-of-mind that is more positive, motivating and uplifting. Any type of difficult behavior change that is successful needs to be accompanied by SELF-motivation, SELF-empowerment, SELF-determination and positive SELF-talk. Women who are frustratingly unsuccessful at their weight-loss attempts may have started out on the wrong foot--including losing weight for the wrong reasons (to get people to like them, stop staring at them, stop judging them, etc.). The reasons you choose to lose weight, if you want to be most successful, need to come from a positive place, and one of determination, power, control, happiness and strength.

Depending on your current health condition, including your height and weight, age, etc., determines the best weight loss plan. We can provide some guidance and direction, share stories about what worked/didn't work for us, but we would need some more information about you. Can you tell us if you have any health/medical conditions? How old are you, what is your height and weight?

The most successful women who lose weight have the positive-mental-attitude, they have their OK by their doctor, they meet with Registered Dietitians, they join weight-loss support groups (either online or in-person), they have a weight-loss buddy, and they learn about proper nutrition, moderation, portion control and physical activity. They also have time to devote to this new endeavor, as it must move up to the top of your priority list. You can lose weight with just 15 minutes a day, so please do not let this be a deterrence. Many women also work with a Personal Trainer to boost their motivation and workouts; other women work with a Psychologist or other mental health provider to work on the mental-emotional aspects of their eating.

Can you tell us more about yourself, your situation, your positive goals to lose weight? How do you plan to lose weight, from what you already know? There is no real "secret" beyond increasing your physical activity, eating more fruits & vegetables, and eating proper portion sizes of lean protein, complex carbs, and limit sugar/fats to the "healthy" kinds. What type of physical activity do you currently enjoy? Do you have any friends or family members who are interested in joining you on your journey?

I hope I did not bombard you with questions, as many of us who have lost weight can also just share our stories. Personally, I lost 20 pounds in 6 months last year using the online version of Weight Watchers (my BMI was in the "overweight" category and I am now in the "healthy/normal" weight range; my weight loss was for health reasons). I can talk more about what I learned through this program, but honestly, most of my weight loss came from increasing my exercise to 4-5 times per week for 6 months...it was difficult, time consuming, and I needed the "buy-in" from family and friends to help me with my 3 year old while I went to workout. I worked out when I didn't want to, but mostly I chose activities that I personally enjoyed. My eating habits changed significantly, and most of the time it was challenging to make healthy choices. And, weight loss is slow at its most successful (meaning...it will be sustained weight loss for the long-term), as 1 pound/week is a healthy goal.

Let us know what information you are looking for: personal stories, information regarding specific weight loss programs, where to start, etc.

I hope to hear back from you soon!
