Lets start by saying that I think the very frank information, provided in this excellent website about circumcision by so many, is highly informative and very serious, and I thank you all for your contributions and the owners of the site for enabling this to happen.
On a lighter note however, being a person who has long since lost the weight of his foreskin, I am 59 and have been circumcised according to my mother (who was very proud of the fact), by the Queen of England's doctor no less! So my first comment is that I sincerely hope that Prince Charles did not suffer the same fate as myself. But alas, if this was the case we are both like brother's who climbed the scaffold of the foreskin guillotine as babies and suffered the same circumcision fate at the same executioner's hands!
Apart from this little aside, I would like to add that as I grow older my glans would seem to have got gradually less sensitive which is not surprising I suppose, so coming takes a bit longer with age, but in my case I very much doubt if this is mentally linked to less sexual motivation which very fortunately does not seem to have changed that much bar regrettably the frequency of opportunities!

There are clearly very many traditional, religious and sanitary reasons for circumcision. But perhaps the main one is the 'cleanliness' justification and not just with the meaning that so many readers have suggested. There has been a confusion in my opinion between the risk of not remaining 'clean,' in the sense that an uncircumcised boy or man might not wash his glans enough, and the 'cleanliness' (or purity) of circumcision that is supposed to prevent, or at least discourage, young boys from indulging in what was, and still is often believed in certain circles to be the wicked sin of masturbation.

At the risk of sounding too logical, if a doctor has to cut-off a foreskin from a baby at birth for the sake of personal hygiene, then why not also surgically remove the baby's anal ring so that the child will never have to use lavatory paper! I don't live in England any more, but at 59 you could say that I am in part a refugee from an almost puritan culture where 'dirty' old men went on 'dirty' weekends and talked 'dirty' to their girl friends, many of whom might have been labelled by the righteous as an 'easy lay,' a 'slag-heap' or a 'slut'! Oh dear, we have an issue here and not just because I am now 59, but because 'wanker' wanking boys were also once, and still are frequently considered to be even more 'dirty!' I am afraid I am rather dubious about the use of this word 'dirty' in all these contexts, I do hope I am not morally depraved! I would add however, being a disgracefully happy fully qualified 'dirty old man' who 'talks dirty' during 'dirty weekends' to a beautiful sweet charming woman, at the great age 59, that the famous philosopher Lord Bertrand Russel did once say that people will always seek to prevent others from enjoying what they cannot enjoy themselves. So bad luck all you immaculately 'clean', very 'clean' talking 'clean weekender' old men!

Yes, I'm sorry my fellow circumcised friends, our foreskins were primarily executed not because evolution has not given babies the right to defend themselves by biting the surgeons hand off that held the scalpel, but for spurious reasons of morality which is why I myself was always told that masturbating would at best turn me blind! Masturbation was once, and still is in certain religions, considered to be evil or wicked and it is quite true to state that the derogatory term 'wankers' who wank of course will find this a lot more difficult without a foreskin.

The foreskin execution technique was also used by one religion in particular as a mark proving that a young man was truly a bona fide member as if this was a tattoo or like all the other countless cults or sects and orders such as free-masons who shake hands in a certain way only recognizable to other members.

Believe you me my friends, if God and/or mother nature, or just the pure secular multi-million year old evolutionary mechanism of the survival of the fittest, gave boys a foreskin then it is fitting to add myself being still a 'dirty old wanker' from time to time, that even if you are now a parent with a new born baby boy, I would very seriously advise you to let him keep it at least until he can make up his own mind! An as an objective indication, I have not personally seen any evidence yet of a hundreds of millions of grown-up men all queuing up outside the doctor's surgery clamoring to get circumcised.
Frankly, who are you to disagree with millions of years of human evolution? Who are you to proclaim that God or mother nature made a dreadful mistake by giving us foreskins in the first place! If you as a parent insist upon circumcision, I really do hope you are right because the cost could be expensive in terms of the sexual enjoyment of your son! But we're all also a bit like cooped-up battery chickens, if you've never known any different you wouldn't miss the real outside world.
Being circumcised myself from birth, I was just guessing what it might have been like to have a foreskin of course!
