Hi laguedia - When you say takotsubo are you referring to Tako-Tsubo Syndrome which is also known as Tako-Tsubo Cardiomyopathy and as Stress Cardiomyopathy? If so, both men and women are affected, but the majority of those who have this rare condition are women. I didn't find any references to this being hereditary, it typically follows a severe emotional or physical stress. The name "tako tsubo" means octopus trap in Japan, where it was first described.

Tako-Tsubo Syndrome is also sometimes known as Broken Heart Disorder. You can learn more about that here:

There's also a dedicated website: http://www.takotsubo.com/

Has this information been helpful? Are you asking for yourself? Do you have any other questions that we can help with?
Take care,
Pat
