Please know that women do not have tell-tale pregnancy symptoms until after they have missed their period.

Did you know that it actually takes 10-14 days after ovulation to even become pregnant? This is the reason that women do not have pregnancy symptoms until their expected time of a period...because a period usually begins about 14 days after ovulation. In other words...women are not technically pregnant until about the time of their missed period.

The reason for this? It takes time for an egg to be released (ovulation), and for the sperm to travel from the vagina, through the cervix, uterus and into the fallopian tubes to meet the egg. The sperm fertilizes the egg, then it takes time for the fertilized egg to travel from the fallopian tube, down to the uterus, to then find a good place to implant itself. Then, your body begins sending out "signals" to stop the previous "menstrual-cycle hormones" and being the "pregnancy hormones". It is at this time that a home pregnancy test would begin detecting the "pregnancy hormones", and is also about 10-14 days after ovulation.

Then, it is the pregnancy hormones that can mimick the menstrual-cycle hormones that can cause the PMS-like symptoms: breast tenderness, headache, irritability, etc. Your symptoms can be PMS or they can be pregnancy-related, but it is far too early to feel any pregnancy effects such as extreme tiredness or fatigue this early. The stress of not-knowing could certainly cause this feeling, however! Lower back aches usually do not occur until later in the pregnancy, too.

I know what you mean about the other sites...you can type in your information and they all say "possible pregnancy!" symptoms, even though they can also be "possible PMS!" symptoms as well. Pregnancy symptoms in the beginning are so general and vague, and could be anything else (PMS, gas, bloating, cold/flu, etc.).

It is important to know that anytime you have unprotected sex, you do have the risk of pregnancy. This is all not to say that you are NOT pregnant, but that your current symptoms would not indicate a pregnancy until the date of your expected period. If your miss your next period, please take a home pregnancy test and let us know. In the meantime, I hate to say that the only thing you can do is wait...I know that is the last thing you want to hear.
