Your experience with the upper GI report/acid reflux doesn't actually surprise me, since my husband went through the same thing very recently. Like you, his only symptom was occasional hoarsness, especially in the morning. His doctor also put him on daily medication for it too.
OK. Sounds like no Cushing's, so let's look at the adrenals. From what I have read, this may be a good place to investigate. Chronically elevated cortisol can absolutely be a cause of weight gain, especially around the abdomen, and it can be seemingly impossible to lose.
Here's an article I wrote about cortisol a while back:
Do you find that you catch colds or other bugs more easily than you used to?
Do you have a lot of stress in your life?
According to an article on about.com, here are some symptoms of adrenal fatigue:
* feeling rundown or overwhelmed
* craving salty and sweet foods
* you feel most energetic in the evening
* a feeling of not being restored after a full night's sleep or having sleep disturbances
* low stamina, slow to recover from exercise
* slow to recover from injury, illness or stress
* difficulty concentrating, brain fog
* poor digestion
* low immune function
* food or environmental allergies
* premenstrual syndrome or difficulties that develop during menopause
* consistent low blood pressure
* extreme sensitivity to cold

I forget. Did you have your blood sugar levels tested along the way? How were they?
