Hi Noopy

It sounds like you have been through a bit. Have you been diagnosed with a stricture? There are not many good non-invasive treatments for this. Have you asked your doctor about prevention? You should run any herbal remedies you are considering by the doc because one of the things that will worsen a stricture is irritation. So if you eat or use things that cause increased acid or other types of irritation, you could make your situation worse.

We have a page on strictures: https://www.empowher.com/condition/esophageal-stricture as does the National Institutes of Health: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000207.htm The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is a good place to look at alternative therapies that have been tested: http://nccam.nih.gov/

The thing about a stricture is most often it is treated by dilation or use of medications that are used for reflux, like omeprazole for example. The idea there is to keep irritation due to any stricture-related reflux to a minimum to avoid more damage. So I'm not really sure there is a specific herbal remedy that would help you. Whatever you try, definitely run it by your doctor first. Even if he/she is not someone who is into alternative therapies and might give you an eyeroll, at least you will know if something will be harmful.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more brilliant here. I suppose you could try accupuncture...that can help with many pain and stress issues, and it certainly couldn't make the stricture worse.

Good luck to you. If we can help further, please let us know.
