Hi female34-

Odds are your husband already has HPV. If he didn't have it before he met you, and he certainly could have because it is extremely common, then he probably contracted it from being with you. Most of the time, it doesn't cause a problem in men. If he is extremely healthy as you are saying his odds of having a problem are even smaller. We have information on HPV: https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/hpv-potentially-cancerous-std

The Centers for Disease Controls has a good page on HPV and Men as well: http://www.cdc.gov/std/hpv/stdfact-hpv-and-men.htm

I wonder if a sit down discussion with both of you and your obstetrician/gynecologist would be helpful? This situation is becoming more and more common as testing improves. I can understand his hesitation and fear of becoming ill, but the odds are against that. Perhaps if you can sit as a couple and discuss all of your options with a professional it might help. Sometimes couples counseling is in order, too. Some people are very fearful of illness and disease, and the whole idea can just sort of freak them out whether it is dangerous in reality or not. If that is the case, hearing factual information from a professional might ease your husband's fears.

Please let us know if we can help further. Good luck to you.
