If your cycle is 28 days long, for example, you are probably ovulating somewhere around day 12=14. Sperm can live in the body for about three days, so unprotected sex three days before ovulation can still result in a pregnancy. But you're talking about sex on day 7, right? Or 8? And as soon as you take that first pill, the hormones become active in your system during the next 24 hours -- before your body's own ovulation hormones have kicked in.
